Sometimes what you Don’t Do is just as important as what you do especially when it comes to running your home business.
As entrepreneurs and small business owners, we are all familiar with time management and setting goals. One of the first things that we learn to do to become more productive is to create a To Do list. This concept of having a To Do list is thrown at us over and over again.
At Seminars and Live Events.
On Personal Development CD’s.
On webinars and every where else!
And I agree that you need to create a To Do List. I use them on a daily bases (mine is primitive-pen & notebook!). Most of us would agree that having and using a To Do List is critical to the success of our business.
It is equally as important what we Don’t Do!
Here’s Your To Don’t Do List.
Take Phone Calls: You don’t have to answer the phone every time it rings. If you are in the zone working on a project, new marketing piece or new product your better off ignoring the call until you finish what you are working on. Schedule time to make your calls and stick to it!
Check your email: Are constantly checking your email? Most of us are in the habbit of checking our email constantly and responding to them. Just like the phone you need to schedule a few times a day to check and respond to email. Most of them will wait until you get the important work done.
Got a Minute? Or Pick Your Brain: Have you ever heard these ones before. I know you mean well and you want to help those around you but when was the last time that minute actually lasted a minute. Or even 10 for that matter. On average your looking at 20-30 minutes!
This time better spent working on your business! You need to guard your time carefully. Keep in mind that once it is gone you never get it back. You’ve been warned!
High Tech Stuff: Don’t spend the next 6 months trying how to learn to put your site together and learning the programing. Save yourself the time and headache and just hire a professional. If you are on a tight budget check out fiverr.com You’d be amazed at what you can get for $5!
Pinch the Penny: Hey if you driving out of your way to Walmart just to save 18 cents on a notebook your wasting your time and a lot more than 18 cents. Just get into the nearest store and get what you need. Your worth a lot more than 18 cents an hour.
Personal Development: Don’t spend valuable time reading books, blogs, watching videos or going through magazines on personal development until you get your “Profit Producing” work done first! Prioritize everything that you do and do your most profitable task first. You’ll see a nice bump in your income and you get more done. Save the personal development stuff for latter in the evening or those long car rides!
Try to Be Superman: Don’t try to do everything on your own! First it is impossible! No one succeeds alone. We all have people that we can tap into for support and encouragement. And let’s not forget all of those great relationships that we’ve built at networking events. Or how about the joint ventures.
There you go.
Some of my favorite things to NOT do if you want a kick-ass business (and life)!
